Job Description

General Responsibilities
The Skamania School District is seeking qualified candidates for a teaching position that will provide full-time classroom teaching in an elementary mixed-age classroom for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year starting immediately. Essential Functions:
  1. Establish and clarify acceptable standards for student behavior and demonstrate effective classroom management skills.
  2. Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment Handle social/emotional issues as they arise.
  3. Provide direct instruction to students in a regular classroom and reading intervention support.
  4. Motivate and communicate with students from varied educational and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Incorporate relevant, rigorous and challenging learning activities in daily lessons.
  6. Differentiate instruction based on student level.
  7. Attend and contribute to staff meetings, trainings, and IEP/504 meetings.
  8. Collaborate with other members of staff in planning district curriculum and instructional methods, goals, and objectives.
  9. Maintain a cooperative attitude with leadership, staff, parents, and students.
  10. Assume the responsibility for seeking help and advice, and take full responsibility for demonstrating professional growth and needed improvement.
  11. Assume any other reasonable tasks assigned by the building/district administration pertaining to the operation of the school.
  12. Actively participating in the MTSS process.
  13. Record and summarize school wide reading benchmark and screening data.
  14. Complete clerical duties related to Title I and/or LAP requirements.
  15. Supervise paraprofessionals who provide remediation support.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. BA/BS or higher degree with a major in one of the following areas: Curriculum, Elementary Education, Reading (preferred Reading Endorsement), Early Childhood Education or similar.
  2. Hold or be eligible to hold a Washington State Teaching License, Emergency Substitute or Conditional Teaching license.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  1. Hold and maintain an appropriate license and endorsement(s) from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Washington or emergency substitute authorization; and display a willingness to teach any qualified subject area.
  2. Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
  3. Knowledge of implementing a core reading curriculum school wide.
  4. Knowledge of conducting reading screening assessments using DIBELS or a similar program.

  1. Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
