Job Summary:

The Student Support Facilitator assists the building administration in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. The Student Support Facilitator provides instructional and behavioral coaching for classroom teachers, supports the building principal’s implementation and provides leadership in school improvement initiatives.



Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligible for the appropriate license

Minimum of five years of effective classroom/school setting experience

PEL Administrative Endorsement preferred, not required



Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment:

This is a 9-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. The position retains membership of the Harvard Education Association and is part of the Collective Bargaining Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists and provides support to students struggling with social-emotional and behavioral concerns through the MTSS framework.
  2. Communicates with students, parents, and staff in a timely manner regarding student behavior, academic achievement, and attendance.
  3. Serves on the district and building MTSS team. May act as a liaison with other building coordinators to ensure a systemic approach to implementation.
  4. Provides leadership in the analysis of school-wide and grade-level student data. 
  5. Supports teachers and serve as a behavioral coach in the areas of MTSS, analysis of student data, and behavior management.
  6. Supports classroom teachers to create and nurture supportive, student-centered classroom communities that promote personal empowerment, academic growth and social-emotional well-being of all learners.
  7. Provides professional development in best practices in student engagement and behavior management. With an emphasis establishing classroom environments that are accessible and provide multiple representations of content for students with diverse abilities.
  8. Supports the principal with student behavior concerns as needed.
  9. Assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events.  
  10. Takes initiative to engage students when students are acting inappropriately or in inappropriate locations for the time of day.  
  11. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  12. Demonstrates the ability to individually assess and monitor the students’ skills.
  13. Participates in a professional learning community with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  14. Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  15. Assists with the transition from one grade level to the next.  
  16. Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with parents and the community.
  17. Serve as acting principal in the absence of the building principal and/or assistant principal. 
  18. Completes and successfully pass Growth Through Learning Performance Evaluation modules. 
  19. Evaluates and supervises Certified Staff as well as Educational Support Personnel. 
  20. Performs other duties and responsibilities as determined by the principal or designee or as needs arise.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Repetitive bending at the waist as well as kneeling, stooping, crouching to assist students is also required.  Regularly walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
