Job Description
The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership within a global society. As an innovation of Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN), LEAD implements a hybrid school model that takes the best research on teaching and learning with opportunity youth and combines it with the best research on youth workforce development from the YouthBuild model. Our innovative approach re-engages young people by active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven, competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands..
JOB GOAL: To lead implementation of the YouthBuild model in the assigned subject and support implementation across the school, raising student achievement in preparation for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create, internalize, modify and prepare lesson plans in accordance with academic curriculum, working closely with the grade-level team
Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies to ensure all students meet the learning objectives
Assesses pupils in accordance with School testing policy and program, interprets the results and utilizes the information obtained for planning instruction, for reporting student progress, and for improving curriculum.
Assists in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
Work closely with students, families and colleagues to create an environment that is supportive of student progress
Accurately maintains appropriate student records and submits required reports within designated time limits.
Effectively contributes in a reasonable manner to the overall after school functions and student activities.
Adheres to and promotes the philosophy and objectives of the school, the administrative staff and the Board and interprets the policies and program of the school in a positive and constructive manner.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the administrative staff in accordance with the contractual agreement or policies of the Board of Trustees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required
Valid NJ teaching certification or in process of being completed in subject matter
Demonstrated success in raising student achievement with underserved populations
Strong commitment to youth and ability to work effectively with parents
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Robust analytical skills, with an ability to use data to drive student achievement
Capacity to personalize instruction through differentiation, including use of blended learning.
Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status & required NJ residency within one year of hire
