Part Time Veterinary Science Program Instructor

Portage High School

 

Qualifications:

  1. An Associate degree Registered Veterinary Technician or a bachelor degree Veterinary Nurse with at least 2 years full time employment at a veterinary facility OR
  2. Hold a valid Indiana Agriculture Teaching license or qualify for a Workplace Specialist Licenses
  3. Must be willing to participate in continuing professional development.
  4. Have enthusiasm for Career and Technical Education.
  5. Have outstanding communication skills.
  6. Have experience assisting students to make viable, realistic career decisions.
  7. Have organizational skills.
  8. Have verifiable work experience outside of education.
  9. Have the ability to develop curriculum and lessons based upon the skills Veterinary Clinics
  10. Have the ability to develop partnerships with area employers.
  11.  Have the ability to work within all guidelines of the hosting school corporation.

 

Other Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of mammalian anatomy and physiology with knowledge of reptiles and birds optional

Knowledge of careers in the field of Animal and Veterinary Science

Knowledge of Medical Terminology and its application to anatomy and skills

Experience in career education or technical training

 

Reports to:

Building Principal for instructional issues

Director of Career and Technical Education for curriculum issues

 

Job Goals:

Provide instruction in all aspects of Veterinary Medicine.  Assist students in enhancing their skills in the areas necessary to seek employment.  Integrate the instruction of basic skills into the curriculum, as well as, teach employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, and a positive work ethic.  Prepare students for entry level employment or for post-secondary study.  Assist students to be successful in school by monitoring their technical, basic skills, and achievement.  Assist students in developing their career education plans, and instruct students in resume writing and interview skills.



Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Organize and take responsibility for an effective program advisory committee.
  2. Develop and implement a curriculum within guidelines of the State Department of Education, and Porter County Career and Technical Education System.
  3. Establish relationships with area employers.
  4. Maintain current license status and perform the necessary continuing education required to maintain and upgrade licensure.
  5. Participate in Dual Credit partnerships with post secondary education
  6. Represent the Career and Technical Education program with a high degree of professionalism.
  7. Direct the instruction of assigned students.
  8. Perform all regular and customary duties of a classroom teacher, maintain student discipline, perform required record keeping, inventory equipment and supplies, and perform student attendance keeping responsibilities.
  9. Assist in the performance of all standard and related tasks of corporation teachers.
  10. Assist in the maintenance of all necessary paperwork and records for the class.
  11. Maintain communication with teaching colleagues and the Career and Technical Education Department.
  12. Create partnerships and participate with Career and Technical Student Organizations. Present and assess Skills Attainment
  13. Organizational skills knowing how to prioritize and meet deadlines
  14. Computer skills working with Microsoft word, Excel and Google Docs
  15. Develop list for supplies and equipment needed to start a Skills Program 
  16. Work with State providers to obtain Workplace Specialist Teaching License
  17. Be willing to attend state and national conferences for Professional Development.
  18. Perform other duties as directed by the administration.

Terms of Employment:

This position will follow the approved sponsoring corporation calendar.  Other contractual obligations will be assumed based upon the standard teaching agreement.

 

Evaluation:

Performance on this job shall be evaluated annually by the Building Principal or his designee and Director of Career and Technical Education
