TITLE:                                    Positive Behavior Support Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:               Licensed in a K-12 or 6-8 core area required.   
Candidates must be designated as HIGHLY QUALIFIED.  MSA preferred.  Previous experience in middle grades teaching assignment preferred. Previous experience as an behavior specialist, intervention specialist, Assistant Principal or academic 
support specialist preferred.  Previous training in Positive Behavior 
Intervention models preferred.  Excellent collaboration skills.

SALARY:                                NC Teacher Salary + 17% supplement

REPORTS TO:                       The school principal or his/her designee
 
JOB GOAL:                            To provide each student with the help, counsel, and learning experience he needs to make progress toward educational goals established.   To create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.  To oversee the implementation of MTSS, including PBIS, Restorative Practices, and behavioral management including ISS. 
                        
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  2. Works with the assistant principal to administer the discipline process.
  3. Creates an In-School Suspension environment that is conducive to reflection, restoration of community, and continued learning outside of the regular classroom setting that is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the middle-school age students.
  4. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the ISS room.
  5. Guides the restorative practice process toward the achievement of its goals.  
  6. Tracks and analyzes MTSS and SWIS data.    
  7. Evaluates students’ behavioral growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  8. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student concerns.
  9. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.    
  10. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities. 
  11. Participates in MTSS program as a member of the MTSS team.  Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:           Ten-month year.  Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.
 
EVALUATION:                                  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
