Job Description

Senior Director of Student Support


The Director of Student Support reports to the Chief Academic Officer and develops, coordinates, implements, administers, and evaluates comprehensive support programs including, special education, 504 program, Student Support Team processes, the English Learner program, and Two Rivers Response to Intervention (RTI) model. The Senior Director of Student Support also ensures that our program remains in compliance with state and federal laws.




Effective Delivery of Specialized Instructional Services

  • Directs and supervises the special education programs, including related services
  • Liaises with non-public placement sites and provides oversight of students enrolled therein
  • Develops recommendations for network-wide special education frameworks and policies
  • Oversees contracts and services from related service providers, 1:1 providers, and any city services received such as OSSE transportation
  • Provides leadership in the development, direction, and coordination of home instruction,

counseling, and psychological services

  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and performance measures for dissemination to

improve the delivery of special education services

  • In conjunction with the Directors of Special Education, ensures that Extended School Year (ESY) services are delivered effectively
  • Provides school leadership with input and support with the implementation of the English Language Program
  • Oversees ACCESS testing
  • Oversees the administration for the statewide alternative assessment (if applicable)
  • Supports Directors of Special Education with caseload determinations, staffing, and compensatory education determinations
  • Leads network response to any special education issues that involve legal representation


Student Support and Intervention Systems

  • Manages network-wide 504 processes
  • Manages network-wide, student-facing Title IX complaint process
  • Works closely with the Chief Academic Officer ensure alignment and cohesion of approaches among all student supports and interventions
  • Ensures that SST/RTI processes are implemented consistently and effectively across campuses


Monitor Performance & Lead Continuous Improvement

  • Monitors effectiveness of Two Rivers student support team meetings and processes 
  • Articulates, oversees, and monitors social-emotional interventions in conjunction with school leadership teams 
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and performance measures for dissemination to school leaders to improve the delivery of student support services, including through the administration of student and family surveys
  • Supports principals with implementation of student support team processes


Develop Staff  

  • Supervises and manages two school psychologists and the special education compliance manager to ensure a comprehensive strategy of student supports is in place to support the needs of students, families, and schools 
  • In collaboration with school leaders, provides performance input and resources to support performance outcomes for student support counselors and SPED directors
  • Supports the planning and delivery of professional development in order to assist staff in the understanding and effective use of the available student support services
  • Participates in the selection, assignment and evaluation of staff
  • Supports school leadership in the coordination of general education student support services with other community resources, agencies, and services


Manage Compliance

  • In partnership with the Special Education Compliance Manager, ensure that 504 plans are developed and implemented in compliance with federal law
  • Monitor and oversee compliance with District discipline guidelines related to reporting and administration of consequences in accordance with the School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act
  • Manages SPED directors (in conjunction with principals) to ensure 100% compliance with special education laws and regulations 
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
