Job Overview: The Facilities Manager is a member of the Operations and Facilities Teams who support the daily operations of Mundo Verde Bilingual PCS. They are responsible for ensuring effective and efficient day-to-day facility operations, running preventative maintenance, overseeing buildings, handling vendors to provide critical building services, and monitoring facility budgets.The Facilities Manager position is critical to the operation of the school and the duties are many and varied. Each of Mundo Verde’s campuses have a dedicated Facilities Manager, however each should have a working knowledge of both campuses and building systems to provide coverage and support as needed.
Reports to and Supervises: This position currently reports directly to the Director of Operational Strategy & Effectiveness or his/her designee
The Facilities Manager does not currently have any direct reports but may manage custodial staff in the future and is responsible for managing facility related vendors.
Responsibilities and Duties
School Safety
Maintain a safe, clean and inviting school for students, faculty and staff
Conducts and documents inspections of school facilities to evaluate the physical condition of buildings, equipment and grounds
Ensure proper operation of building systems including (not limited to) HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Life Safety Systems, hardware, security (including arming and disarming the building as needed), etc.
Responsible for scheduling annual inspections for all relevant equipment with contracted vendors
Support school safety by assisting with student arrival and dismissal procedures
Ensures security and serves in designated role for school emergency procedures as directed by supervisor
Attends to emergencies outside of regular school hours
Maintain knowledge regarding methods of industrial cleaning, safety practices and procedures, and health standards and hazards
Assist in ensuring compliance with regulations; maintain up-to-date building documentation and certifications
Vendor Management
As appropriate, solicit and analyze proposals from contractors to perform various repairs and special maintenance for recommendation to supervisor
Checks and verifies completion of vendors work aligned with original quotations and executed contracts
Assists in maintaining an up-to-date facility vendor contact list
Operates, maintains or supervises custodial functions for either vended or in-house staff as directed by supervisor
Assist in ensuring compliance with local regulations regarding vendor procurement
Direct vendors as necessary onsite to manage repair and maintenance of building mechanical systems
Facilities and Supplies
Oversees building and grounds maintenance
Hands on day-to-day operation of building systems with electrical and plumbing troubleshooting and minor repairs and maintenance
Maintain and organize equipment and related building supplies
Responsible for maintaining preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment and building systems in line with the school’s facilities plan
Provides input on recommended maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications
Assist in moving furniture and items as needed for staff and special events
Works with supervisor to determine priorities of action required for repairs and preventative maintenance, sanitation standards and installations
Track and communicate status of project requests to requestors and other interested parties to ensure timely feedback and accountability
Maintain manual and electronic documents, files and records (inspection records, time sheet, work orders and requisitions, supplies, chemical storage, crisis management data, security controls) for the purpose of documenting activities and ensuring an up-to-date reference
Ability to work overhead and climb ladders, crouched positions, basic carpentry skills, walk stairwells and lift up to 75lbs
Other
Attend and participate in Operations team meetings
Be available for on-call facility issues on evenings, weekends and as needed
Meet with supervisor to evaluate progress, growth and performance using Mundo Verde's evaluation process
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Values
Qualifications
Candidates must have an associate’s degree, vocational training, or equivalent experience.
Safety procedures and OSHA certification preferred.
Must be comfortable using a computer and other technology.
Hand and power tool knowledge and use required as well as an ability to adjust to unexpected tasks and schedule to the updated priorities.
Must be fluent in English, bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Experience in a school setting is preferred.

STAFF
Schedule: 8 hour day starting at 7:50am (may be required to attend meetings after student dismissal)
Location: Calle 8 Campus, 4401 8th St. NE, Washington DC
Position Type (STAFF): This is a 12-month salaried position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
