 Providence Public Schools was recently awarded a 3-year Teacher and School Leader Incentive grant from the US Department of Education. A key focus on this grant is supporting leadership development in the district, which will be led and coordinated by the Executive Director of Leadership Development (EDLD).
 
The EDLD will be responsible for building a strong school leadership pipeline to ensure that every school is led by a transformational leadership team. The primary focus will be on the onboarding, development, retention, and career progression of aspiring principals and their instructional lead team members. The EDLD will also work alongside the Network Transformation Officers to support and develop current leaders to ensure continuous improvement of PPSD’s school leadership teams.
 
This position is funded by the Teacher and School Leader Incentive grant.

Roles & Responsibilities
 
 Cultivating and recruiting leadership talent
  • Implement the aspiring principal preparation program partnering by designing intensive 1:1 coaching and facilitating key professional development experiences
  • Guide the evaluation and support of aspiring principals aligned to our district leadership competencies
  • Support the creation & implementation of aspiring principal coaching plans that align to high priority areas as determined by the district
  • Partner with Network Transformation Officers to identify and address other local needs for principal preparation
  • Ensure that each aspiring principal has both technical and adaptive proficiency in the most important areas of instructional leadership and visionary team leadership
Hiring and onboarding leadership talent
  • Partner with district leaders, human resources, and Network Transformation Officers to help engage in selection and matching of Principals in Residence to vacant school administrator roles
  • Help coordinate principal screening and hiring processes
Developing and retaining leadership talent
  • Lead development of new principal induction programs
  • Communicate to mentor principals the measures of excellence for principalship (defined within the School Leadership Levers) and, when needed, build mentor principal capacity to model proficiency for their mentees
  • Support development of incentives (financial and non-financial) to retain high-performing principals
  • Consult with Network Transformation Officers to provide thought partnership around principal retention.
  • Help design and/or facilitate sessions in principal professional development programs, if/as requested by Network Transformation Officers
  • Help identify prospective mentor principals
  • Support mentor principal development in modeling excellence in the principalship, if/as needed
  • Leads the development and implementation of a central office evaluation system
Systems and systems to support leadership talent
  • Develop and monitor data systems for tracking leadership talent
  • Share best practices and collaborate with District Partners and Personnel on best practices to arrange peer visits, school visits, etc.
 
Salary Rate Range
$132,152 - $141,869
 
 
 
RIDE Requirements
 Building Level Administrator Certification or Superintendent certification
 
 
 
 
Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree, degree or formal training in Educational Leadership preferred
  • Three years of experience in classroom teaching, with three years of related management or supervisory experience.
  • Three years of experience as a building principal required
  • Previous experience in managing principals preferred
  • Experience in public school administration or other large diverse organizations preferred
  • Strong analytical reasoning and communication skills required.
  • You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment
  • Bilingual Preferred
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check. Selected candidates cannot begin work until passing their background check.
