Job Description

The Assistant Regional Education Coordinator provides educational leadership and management for the DYS Education Initiative consistent with the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the DYS Educational Initiative and specific to the identified needs and priorities of the designated region(s). The Assistant Regional Education Coordinator is expected to develop, strengthen, and monitor the quality of education programming for youth across all educational concentrations, with an emphasis on supporting the success of the College Program and transition services. As well, the position is responsible for supervision and evaluation of select faculty.

Essential Functions:
1) Provide instructional and regional/program leadership in the design, collaborative problem-solving, and implementation, of programming for youth across multiple education concentrations (High School, High School Equivalency, Post-Secondary, and/or Career).
2) Assist Regional Education Coordinator(s) in assigned region(s) in recruiting, recommending for hire, supervising, evaluating, and developing training and professional development opportunities for staff.
3) Support data use in instructional planning and improved student outcomes tailored to the diverse strengths and needs of the student population.
4) Oversee effective administration of MCAS and other required assessments.
5) Effectively manage program development and implementation efforts at assigned sites including, but not limited to, setting and measuring benchmarks for demonstrating progress.
6) Directly supervise and evaluate Teaching Coordinators and Teachers as assigned.
7) To lead and/or co-lead program based and regional efforts to increase blended learning, personalized learning opportunities, and other educational innovation.
8) Serve as primary regional manager of regional student transition related activities, including, but not limited to chairing and/or convening a Regional Education Transition Team; supporting the development and use of student artifacts/portfolios/credentials in transition planning; guiding the integration of student voice in transition planning with clinical, residential and community DYS partners; supervision of Education and Career Counselors; and facilitating partnerships with community based organizations and colleges.
9) Provide regional leadership and oversight for college programs and facilitate problem-solving in line with College Program guidance documents, including but not limited to computer use during non-school hours, access to tutors, best and innovative practices, and accountability for academic success and effective transition planning.
10) Strengthen participation and persistence of College going youth by coordinating efforts among ECC’s, TC’s, and program stakeholders.
11) Facilitate College Program start-up and other college programming focused meetings as appropriate.

    Job Requirements

    • Required Qualifications:
      1) Bachelor's Degree from accredited College or University, Master’s Degree desirable.
      2) Massachusetts Administrators License (or corresponding waiver) required (Superintendent/Asst. Superintendent; Principal/Vice Principal).
      3) A minimum of 1 - 3 years of teaching, instructional coaching, guidance, and/or educational leadership serving diverse learners.
      4) Have demonstrated project management skills, including effective written and oral communication skills.
      5) Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      1) Masters or Doctoral degree in Education or relevant field.
      2) Three to five years in an educational or leadership role working with youth placed at risk.

      Workplace Health and Safety: CES employees working on site in DYS, DMH, DPH or CHC facilities are required to demonstrate that they have received the COVID-19 vaccination.
