Job Description

Innovation Early College High School (IECHS) Dean of Students
 
Opening Date:              November 11, 2021
Closing Date:                Until Filled
Start Date:                     Immediately
Reports To:                   IECHS Principal  
Summary: Assists with administration and supervision of all aspects of the local school operation. The Dean of Students proactively and effectively communicates with staff, students, parents and works closely with the principal and school counselor in providing programming support that provides for an efficient operation of IECHS.
 
Qualifications
 Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching
  • Minimum of five successful years of classroom experience.
 Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Working knowledge of computer skills (word, excel spreadsheets)
  • Utilize information in different systems/platforms (i.e. PowerSchool, Google Suite, Educators Handbook, etc.)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Shares with principal the responsibility for protecting health and welfare of students.
  • Oversee day-to-day student compliance with IECHS & ECU policy and procedures and works closely with faculty and staff to ensure compliance with school policies.
  • Monitor student attendance and contact home to follow-up on extended absences. Develop and execute plans for attendance make-up procedures. Communicates with parents, teachers and related personnel on student attendance. Assists with investigations on attendance issues.
  • Assists the school counselor with IECHS and ECU course registration processes.
  • Work collaboratively with school counselor and support staff to support student needs, referring potential counseling issues to the school counselor, social worker or mental health contacts.
  • Oversees school transportation program and communicates with PCS transportation department regarding all transportation questions, changes, and concerns.
  • Oversees school textbook program and communicates with ECU Dowdy Student Store and ECU Liaison regarding all textbook questions, changes, and concerns.
  • Assigns student’s appropriate disciplinary consequences and prepares administrative discipline reports.
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely fashion, both verbally and in writing, with students, parents, appropriate school staff and ECU Liaison.
  • Serves with the principal in managing services, budgets, schedules, requisitions, inventories, and reports.  The dean of students delegates responsibility, as authorized, and assists the principal as needed.
  • Serves with the principal in promoting open communication among staff.
  • Serves with the principal in providing activities that ensure students are oriented to policies regarding the total school program.  The dean of students promotes effective relationships among students and the total school staff.
  • Serves with the principal to promote a positive relationship with the community.
  • Keep accurate records regarding transportation, student attendance, etc.
  •  Shows evidence of professional ethics, upgrades professional knowledge and skills, and complies with established lines of authority.

Terms of Employment: 10 months
Proposed Paygrade: NCDPI Teacher Salary Schedule
